Basic Info
Bio
Born by the seashore in a New Jersey, Christian, Republican town, raised democratic, without television, and Jewish (and, although conservatively, also with some Pagan exposures and undertones).
I moved to Northern California as a teenager, dropped the glasses and shyness (for the most part), moved down to Southern California eventually, and, with a partner met out there, moved into the New York area. It felt as though the east coast was a clearer reality (less gloss with more detail underneath.. I was dying for some "superficial phony politeness".. but the beauty and intellectual allure proved irresistable- my ex-partner (an almost-lifetime New York resident) decided to leave the city (and, eventually, the country)a few years after our relationship ended (this was a good thing!), .. In my case, my love of knowledge which can be found in this city (I think) more than anywhere else), re- bewilderment @ the changes of the seasons, and love of my 90 + year old grandparents, who were living near the city, (despite the fact that my first couple of years in New York were the most difficult years of my life - or, maybe, because of this fact).. felt like staying.. I continue to draw (when I can) write, "make things" (these days I usually like to construct dolls, found-object sculptures, to draw portraits, and to decorate clothing) sometimes to perform (altho' the cheesy phone commercial, horror movies, and "girly modeling" that I've done could scarcely qualify as the highest (although I dunno about the horror movies!)forms of art) and pose for artists and for art students around the city.. I'm keeping myself on kind of a mellow note lately (it's kind of a much-deserved reaction to all of the chaos around me, which you either understand, or you don't!).. I can sometimes complain about the inequalities, the balance being taken away from the oceans, forests and ecosystems that I was lucky enough to grow up with (even in a conservative climate, a beachfront upbringing does still mean something), the knowledge that those of us that have the time and the resources to rant and to rave about ourselves on the livejournal (in comparison to the state of the world) are very, very privileged.. And with today (election daze) political state, we all need to have our opinions .. I want to hear what other people think.
